MELON CAMP

Summer is here and the only thing that I can think is to eat a delicious and healthy yet refreshing food, that is melon camp. I want it to share with you so that you also feel the happiness that I have felt when I eat this delicious melon camp.

Here are the ingredients and procedure on how to make melon camp:

6 cups cubed,seeded watermelon
1 1/2 chopped apples
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped green pepper
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 tablespoon cider vinegar

In blender,puree watermelon; pour into large mixing bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients. Refrigerate, covered, at least 1 hour to blend flavors. Makes up to 4 serving. Hope you'll it.

WHAT IS FEVER?

Fever is one of the common reasons why children brought their children to the doctor or to the hospitals.In fact,having a child with the fever is an anxiety-provoking situation that many parents never want to experience.Fortunately, majority of these episodes are due to minor illness that may not ever require a visit to the doctor.Since all children will have febrile episode, it is important for the parent to know what cause fever and what to do when their children have fever.Having a body temperature that is more than 37.8C is generally consider the beginning of a febrile state. So if you experience of having a temperature that is more than what I have said or what that I have wrote you might as well go to the doctor for security reason or assurance of what you have felt.

HOW CAN WE TELL IF WE ARE PREGNANT?

There are some sign that we can tell if we are pregnant.Here are some of the signs and their meaning:

1. CESSATION OF MENSTRUATION = is missed of menstruation of a women.The women are usually have their monthly period however if they missed their period they might be pregnant so we should consult our doctor for assurance.

2. MORNING SICKNESS = This symptoms is usually appears on the 6 weeks of pregnancy.It's appear in the morning,the woman feeling nauseated and dizzy.The feeling passes off in a few hours.

3. CHANGES IN THE BREAST = In the early weeks, the woman experience a sense of tension and pricking sensation in them.After the second month, the breast begin to increase in size as they continue to enlarge.The color of pink become dark brown.

4. CRAVING-MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL CHANGES = The appetite of the pregnant women is increase and unconquerable desire for peculiar foods.They also experience of changing moods and disposition.They also get easily excitable and morbid.

5. URINARY DISTURBANCES = In early weeks of pregnancy, the enlarging uterus by exerting pressure on the urinary bladde, may cause of frequent urination.

6. ENLARGING OF THE ABDOMEN = Foregoing signs and symptoms is gradual enlargement of the abdomen.However, a sudden increase in size is sign of abnormality that could be too much amniotic fluid or maybe also means of multiple pregnancy or what we called twins.

7. SKIN DISCOLORATION AND ABDOMINAL STRIAE = Irregularly-shaped,yellowish patches of various sizes appears on the face and neck,the condition is called chloasma or skin discoloration, which usually appears after delivery.

These are some signs that we can see and we can feel if we are pregnant.

MEASURING OUR BODY TEMPERATURE

There are several ways of measuring body temperature and there meaning:

1. ORAL = Oral temperatures may be taken in older children who can hold the thermometer,without biting,under their tongues, with their lips closed. The oral thermometer, which has a long bulb at the end,should be left inside the mouth for 3 minutes.
The normal oral temperature ranges from 36.6C - 37.5C.

2. RECTAL = Rectal temperature gives the most accurate reading and is the best for babies younger than 2 months.it placed on the back of the infant with the knees bent toward the chest.Put lubricate or petroleum jelly and gently inserted into the anus for 1 inch deep.Hold the thermometer for 3 minutes then remove it and wipe to read the result.
The normal rectal temperature ranges from 37C - 38C

3. AXILLARY = Axillary temperature is the safest way to take temperature.It's only taken in the armpit and held for only 3 minutes.
The normal axillary temperature ranges from 36.6C - 37.5C.

4. TYMPANIC = Tympanic temperature is using the ear thermometer or ear scan placed inside the ear canal.It is an easy and convenient of taking body temperature but it is not safe for the babies because of their small ear canal.
The accuracy is diminished with temperatures over 40C

These are the ways we can know our body temperature just in case we or our children are sick.

MOMMY LET'S COOKED VEAL AND CHEESE BALLS WITH BASIL CREAM SAUCE

My daughters want to eat veal and cheese balls with basil cream sauce for their lunch.They also want me to teach them on how to cook at food.

Here are the ingredients and step by step procedure on how to cook.

2/3 quantity herb pasta dough
500g veal steaks, chopped
1/2 cup grated fresh Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup stale breadcrumbs
1 egg,lightly beaten
2 tablespoon chopped basil
60g mozzarella cheese
plain flour
30g butter
1 tablespoon olive oil

BASIL CREAM SAUCE
30g butter
1 onion,chopped
1/4 chopped basil
1/2 cup cream
1 tablespoon cornflour
1/2 cup water

Roll pasta dough until 1 1/2mm thick,cut into 2 1/2cm x 30cm strips.Mince or process veal,add Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs,egg and basil,process until combined.Cut mozzarella cheese into small cubes.Shape 1 level tablespoon of veal mixture around mozzarella cubes, roll into meatballs; repeat with remaining veal mixture and mozzarella cubes. Toss meatballs lightly in flour, shake away excess flour.Heat butter and oil in pan, add meatball, cook until meatballs are well browned. Transfer meatball to baking dish,bake,covered, in moderate oven for about 10 minutes or until cooked through.Add pasta to large pan of boiling water,boil, uncovered until just tender; drain.Serve meatballs with pasta and sauce.

BASIL CREAM SAUCE:
melt butter in pan, add onion,cook, stirring,until soft.Add basil, cream, blended cornflour and water, stir until sauce boils and thickens.

Try it for yourself and you'll gonna love it.

HOW CAN WE FIGHT THE BIG C?

How can we fight cancer? There is no way we can fight it but we can prevent it
by doing the right routine of our life and have a healthy living.

Yesterday, I've talked to my mother in-law and she told me that her best friend have been diagnosed of stage 3 ovary cancer.She is very affected but she doesn't show it because showing that she is pity for her best friend doesn't help the patient instead she is going to frighten her.Having love ones who have cancer is not easy.We also feel the pain that the patient is going through.I know it because I also have uncle who died of cancer.It very hard to accept it but we must.This is the reality of our life.The only thing we can do is to know on how we can control it and how we can prevent it.
Eating the right kind of food and complete rest help us to have a healthy and strong body.These is the best way we can do to fight the killer cancer.Let's pray for those who suffer cancer.May they survive with there battle in life.

CAN WE FIGHT COLDS?

The signs are unmistakable.Scratchy throat,watery eyes and stuffed-up head.It maybe the misery from the common colds.But there's no cure in sight because an effective drug or vaccine would have to work against so called cold viruses.But the researcher have been able to zero in effective ways to reduce of catching a cold.

Here are some of the best way you can do to prevent cold.

1. Wash your hands as often as you can.
most colds are transmitted through indirect contact such as holding hands with the person who have colds.

2. Keep at least three feet away from coughers and sneezers.
you should at least have a distance with the person infected by diseases such as cold so that we can prevent for having colds.

3. Sterilize your sponges.
lots of colds can be caught in the kitchen.The best ways to prevent is to put the items in the dish-washer and always make sure that you sterilize it with hot water.

4. Drink plenty of fluids.
they help flush germs from our body and avoid dehydration that often accompanies colds.

5. Get good night sleep every night.
to keep our immune cells powered up and it help us to fight to have from diseases or so called colds.

These are some simple steps that we can do to prevent to have colds.

SUFFERING FROM ARTHRITIS

I'm only 32 but I'm suffering from arthritis.My doctor say that the people with osteoarthritis of the knee who walked three times a week were half as likely suffer disabling pain compared to people who were inactive.He believe that exercise helped by giving people strength, flexibility and confidence.Expert recommend sport on joint such as walking, jogging, cycling and swimming are the best therapy to us.So if you experience this kind of discomfort to your knee just like me.You should start to have a healthy living and start to have some sport that I have mentioned.

HEALTHY FOOD FOR HEALTHY LIVING

Eating the right kind of food can make us healthy and strong.Eating in the restaurant mean blowing out your diet.
Here are some ideas for staying healthy while were at the restaurant or were dining out:

1. Skip the buffet= choose the restaurant that offers healthy foods.
2. Choose steamed not fried= look for the dishes that are fresh and steamed.Avoid that are fried or extra crispy.
3. Put it on the side= for soup look for the broth based soup not creamy or ask for salad as your appetiser.
4.Go ahead and ask= don't be shy to ask the waiter if they have low-fat meal or if they can cooked our meal for less oil.

These are some tip that I can advice if you are go on the diet and want to have a healthy living style of life.

THE THREAT OF DENGUE FEVER

The most widespread mosquito viral disease in the world is dengue which infects up to millions and millions of people a year.Many people include many doctors mistake for DHF influenza and flu likes diseases.It often goes untreated until symptoms become severe and the patient goes into shock once they knew it. Most who die of dengue are the children under the age of 15 and below but adults is also at risk too.The large spread cases of Dengue are found in Asia.But we have ways on how we can prevent and protect our self from Dengue.


Three Steps to Prevention

1. Eliminates Breeding Sites

a.Keep containers outside home and dry the gutters.
b.avoid hanging the clothes in the dark.

2. Protect Yourself From Bites

a.always use pajamas.
b.warn children not to play near still water.

3. Seek Treatment

a.see doctor if you have flu accompanied by fever and rash.
b.encourage anyone suspected of having a dengue to contact the nearest health center.

These simple precautions can help and protect us against dengue.Be conscious enough to our health and to our surroundings.

MOMMY TEACH ME HOW TO BAKE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

My daughter Daphne always asks me when I'm going to teach her how to bake a chocolate chip cookies. So I decide now is the right time to teach her because it's her summer vacation and she must have something to do.

Here are the ingredients and step by step procedures on how to bake a chocolate chip cookies. Just in case you want to try it for yourself.

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp.baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup(2sticks) butter,softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp.vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups(12-oz.pkg.) semi-sweet
chocolate morsels
1 cup chopped nuts

1) Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
2) Combine flour,baking soda and salt in small bowl
3) Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and
vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy
4) Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5) Beat in flour mixture.
6) Stir morsels and nuts.
7) Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 9-11 minutes

Best serve with hot or cold milk.

THE OUTSTANDING MOM!

To every child, mother is always best. Can you imagine a mother not caring for her child and still be called a mother? I can't. A mother becomes a great person to her child not because of what she wants to do but because of what her instincts tell her to do. She can do amazing things that only a mother can do for her child. To those mothers who've done such and to those children lucky enough to have felt their mother's love, you know what I'm talking about.
There are those who are not so lucky. Mothers who failed at becoming good ones because of different reasons. It's difficult to understand how such a thing could happen but it does. It may be because their perception of motherly love is great to them but in reality they're doing more harm than good. Lucky are those who are not in this situation.
So to those moms who are so loved by there children...Good job! Rest assured that they believe you're an outstanding mom.
