THE POWER OF A HUG!

The power of a hug

It has been proved that showing affection strengthens growth and positive development in people. We all need physical contact to feel good, and one of the most important ways of physical contact between two people is hugging. Who does not need cuddles in this society that is becoming ever colder, more competitive, that compels us to be more individualistic, more personal-goal oriented...? When we hug, we receive an energy feedback. We bring life to our senses and reaffirm the trust in our senses. Sometimes we CANNOT find the right words to express how we feel, and then hugs are the best way to say it. We need four hugs a day to survive, eight to preserve ourselves, and twelve to grow. A hug makes you feel good. The skin is the biggest organ we have and it needs a lot of love. A hug can cover an extensive part of the skin and provides the massage you need. It is also a way to communicate. It can convey messages for which you have no words. We can always resort to the universal language of hugs. The Power of Hugs
Hugging achieves many things that you might never have imagined. For example:
  • It feels good
  • It dissolves solitude
  • It defeats fear
  • It opens the door to sensations
  • It improves self-esteem (wow, he or she wants to hug me!)
  • It encourages altruism (I can't believe it, but I want to hug that person)
  • It delays aging (those who hug age more slowly)
  • It helps reduce appetite (we eat less when we are nourished with hugs and when our arms are wrapped around others)
More benefits from hugs:
  • It is environmentally friendly (it does not damage the environment)
  • It preserves energy
  • It is portable and requires no additional machinery
  • It does not require a special place to do it (an adequate place to hug)
  • In any place such as a conference room, a church or a football field
  • It makes happy days even happier
  • It gives us a sense of belonging
  • It fills the void in our lives
  • It is still effective even after the hugging has finished
  • It strengthens and increases our ability to share
  • It harmonizes the hearts of friends
Hugging creates some form of addiction to tenderness, to altruism, to happiness...

Just as laughter, it is highly contagious! Whatever your hug may be, let it always come from the heart, not from the mind.
Come up with new ways of hugging.
Give your hugs interesting or funny names.
Become a full-time "hug therapist."
Be always ready to offer a hug to someone.
Observe the other person and always be careful of his or her personal space.
Do not try to impose your vision or philosophy on others.
A hug does and says very much.

Hug your friend, your loved one, your kids, your parents, your pet...

IMELDA MARCOS BEING MISUNDERSTOOD!

In an extraordinary world described by Imelda Marcos, the end of the Cold War began with an adoring Chinese leader's kiss of her hand.

Her famous extravagance was actually a sacrifice to inspire the poor masses of the Philippines.

And her husband, Ferdinand Marcos, was definitely no dictator.

"I have been so misunderstood," Marcos declared during a wide-ranging interview inside her two-storey penthouse apartment overlooking one of Manila's wealthiest suburbs.

Indeed, the former beauty queen's recounting of her life sounds more like a wonderful fairytale than the one tarnished by greed, corruption and power-lust that many outsiders associate with her.

"My dreams were small and puny with the realities that my dreams became," Marcos said as she sat in her main living room surrounded by a stunning array of jade statues and photos of her meeting world leaders.

But at age 80 and with Monday next week marking 20 years since her husband died, the former first lady is acutely aware that not everyone believes in her fairytale, and for many the Marcos story is more akin to a horror movie.

"I don't want to be remembered as a criminal," she said candidly while discussing her legacy.

Indeed, she admitted to remaining driven in the twilight years of her life by her desire to clear the muddied Marcos name.

Ferdinand Marcos ruled the Philippines from 1965 to 1986, holding on to power for nearly half of those years thanks to the use of martial law, a compliant military and powerful backing from the United States.

During that time, the woman famous for her shoe collection allegedly conspired with her husband to steal billions of dollars from the people they governed and preside over widespread human rights abuses.

Their rule finally ended after millions of people took to the streets of Manila, key military chiefs joined the masses and the US government helped them escape the angry hordes by flying the disgraced couple to Hawaii.

While Marcos stated that the fact she had never been convicted of any crime should prove she did nothing wrong, she revealed that the endless barbs about her supposed greed continued to cut deeply.

"Every time they put out a biography on Mrs Marcos (they say): 'Oh! She's beautiful!, Oh! Extravagant! Oh! Jewellery. Oh! Shoes," she said.

"What a pity to talk about the superficiality of all this and not the soul."

Sitting with a Picasso hanging on her living room wall, Marcos insisted that her penchant for the finest things in life was aimed at setting an example for the poor.

"My role as first lady was to be a star and a slave. To set the standard because mass follows class. And so I had to enslave myself so that everyone becomes a star," she said.

Marcos insisted she appreciated the poor masses of the Philippines.

"I envy almost everybody, I even envy the beggars in the street because they don't steal, they humiliate themselves to be beggars," she said.

Marcos also defended her phenomenal travels around the world when she was first lady, during which time she undoubtedly was an influential woman, but perhaps not as powerful as she remembered.

One of her proudest moments was her meeting with communist China's revolutionary leader, Mao Zedong, at the height of the Cultural Revolution and Cold War in 1974.

She said that despite big differences between the pair -- with Mao an ageing warrior and her a beautiful representative of a US-backed Asian government -- she paid respects by offering her hand.

"He took my hand and kissed it... And that was the beginning of the end of the Cold War. Because the Philippines was America junior... do you see how serious that was?"

While Marcos's critics may accuse her of self-delusion, a recurring theme during the interview was her complete certainty that she did no wrong and that all criticisms against her were baseless.

"I knew I was on the side of the right and truth. And if you are on the side of the truth, and you are peace with the truth, you are at peace with God," she said.

To the critics of Former first lady Imelda Marcos, let us give Imelda Marcos a chance. She is old enough for the criticisms that she received. She suffered so much.

Let God decide for all that she had done.

Thanks to PMA for recommends Kho suspension !

The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) has suspended celebrity doctor Hayden Kho Jr. for 2 years in connection with his sex video scandal.

PMA Ethics Commission head Dr. Santiago del Rosario said the suspension was originally for 3 years, but since Kho was not the one who distributed the sex videos, and that the women consented to the sexual acts, the suspension was shortened to 2 years.

The PMA will submit its recommendation on Kho to the Professional Regulation Commission.

Kho was among those accused by actress-model Katrina Halili for uploading on the Internet the racy videos of their sexual encounters.

Kho admitted filming the sexual encounter but denied uploading the videos, accusing mutual friends of allegedly making copies from his laptop computer.

Halili had charged Kho with psychological violence under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

Kho also voluntarily suspended his medical practice after Halili filed a separate complaint against him before the PRC.

Thank you PMA for giving justice to all the victims of Kho. Hope this will serve a lesson to those who also do what Kho did.

THE PHILIPPINES LEADS IN USING CELLPHONES!

A new report by global market research firm Synovate has found that Filipinos lead the way in the use of many mobile features among 11 countries covered by the survey.

Aside from being the world's heaviest senders of SMS or text messages, Filipinos can now claim another title in the mobile space: Most savvy users of a mobile phone.

In the study, 87 percent of the local population use the phone's alarm clock as against the global average of 67 percent. There were 8,000 total respondents.

Sixty-three percent of Filipinos also play games regularly, 48 percent listen to or download music, 44 percent watch video clips, and 13 percent even watch TV (versus an overall 5 percent).

Carole Sarthou, Synovate's managing director for the Philippines, said in a statement that the high numbers of the country can be attributed to ''cultural'' and ''circumstantial'' factors.

''It's part of the national psyche to love social connections, music and entertainment. How the Filipino love affair with the mobile is different compared to developing nations is that, in many cases, a mobile is all people have,'' she said.

''It's the only way they can listen to music, the only way they can play games and the only way they can communicate from afar. Many Filipinos use this instead of the Internet and computers and it's not surprising that it has become such a multi-purpose, multi-tasking tool,'' Sarthou added.

The survey also found that the Philippines was the closest market to being split on the issue when asked, ''If lost, which would be harder to replace... your mobile phone or wallet/purse?''

Respondents from the Philippines said 47 percent of them said their mobile phone would be harder to replace while 52 percent chose the wallet/purse.

Synovate's Sarthou said this result shows Filipinos would find the mobile difficult, or even impossible, to replace.

''The connection to other people stops when the phone is lost. It's a storehouse for photos and videos, but most vital are contact details. Filipinos seek constant connection,'' she said.

The survey also showed the Philippines coming out on top in using text in conveying potentially bad news:

• 12 percent have broken up with someone via text, led by 23 percent of Filipinos and 22 percent of both Malaysians and Russians.
• 35 percent agreed that they have hidden behind text to say no or send a difficult message, led by 49 percent of Filipinos, 48 percent of Malaysians and 47 percent of Singaporeans. Least likely to hide behind SMS are Canadians (79 percent disagree) and Americans (71 percent).
• 31 percent agreed they have lied about why they were running late or where they are, led by 57 percent of Filipinos and 44 percent of Singaporeans.

Least likely to lie via text (or so they say) are the Dutch (84 percent disagree) and the Americans (79 percent).

Synovate's global head of media, Steve Garton, said mobile phones have become so ubiquitous that by last year, more human beings owned one than did not.

''In the Philippines and Africa,'' millions of dollars have been transacted via mobile. The telco has effectively become a bank, allowing even those in rural areas to send and receive mobile money.

This is just one of the huge benefits which are changing lives in developing nations,'' he said.

Lakas execs pick Teodoro as 2010 standard bearer

Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. was selected on Wednesday to be the standard bearer in 2010 of the ruling Lakas-Kampi (Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino)-CMD party.

Teodoro won by a landslide against Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Bayani Fernando, who walked out of the party’s national executive committee meeting after his motion to defer the voting was rejected.

In announcing the decision, presidential political adviser and party secretary-general Gabriel Claudio noted that Teodoro and Fernando were both worthy presidential aspirants.

"In the end, however, one man alone had to be chosen and the standard bearer to lead the party in the election for 2010…The candidate of Lakas-Kampi-CMD for the 2010 presidential elections, as endorsed by the party national executive committee is the honorable Gilberto Teodoro Jr.," Claudio said.

Claudio said Teodoro’s selection is subject to the ratification by the party’s national convention.

Radio dzBB’s Denver Trinidad quoted a party official member as saying that the voting results were 44-5 in favor of Teodoro. The official declined to be named.

House Speaker and party executive vice chairman Prospero Nograles said Teodoro “has the support of the biggest political party with about 3,000 elected officials nationwide."

Sought for comment, Fernando’s camp remained mum. “I’m sorry, we have no statement at this time," said Gina Virtusio, Fernando’s close aide.

Party vice president for membership and recruitment Prospero Pichay Jr. said Teodoro selected by the committee through secret voting.

Pichay told to the reporters that they agreed that they will conduct secret balloting.

Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno is also poised to become the administration party’s vice presidential bet as he is the only one who has expressed desire to run for the post, Claudio said.

Militant teachers condemn CCP’s Imelda tribute

According to Andreo C. Calonzo of GMANews. TV. The Members of a militant teachers’ organization criticized on Wednesday the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)’s planned gala tribute for former First Lady Imelda Marcos, saying it is an “utter disrespect" for the Filipino people.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) vowed to stage a protest rally on Friday during the invitational gala event in honor of Marcos, the founding chairperson of the CCP.

“The CCP’s decision to pay tribute to Marcos as part of (its) 40th anniversary celebration shows utter disrespect for the Filipino people, who are all victims of Martial Law," ACT national chairperson Antonio Tinio said.

Marcos is the wife of late Philippine strongman Ferdinand Marcos, who placed the country under Martial Law during his presidency on Sept. 21, 1972.

Tinio questioned the CCP’s decision to hold “Seven Arts, One Imelda," a gala tribute to Mrs. Marcos on September 11, the birth anniversary of the late dictator.

Tinio also criticized the CCP for using government funds to honor Mrs. Marcos, who is currently facing 10 graft charges on allegations that she held financial interests in secret foundations and private enterprises during her husband’s term.

“Why is this government using public funds and mobilizing resources to honor the surviving member of the conjugal dictatorship that robbed the Filipino people of their democratic rights and stands accused of plundering billions from the public treasury?" he said.

GMANews.TV tried to contact officials of the CCP to get their side, but personnel from the CCP’s public relations division said the artistic director in-charge of the event was unavailable for comments until Thursday afternoon.

WILL NONOY MAKE IT AND MEASURE UP TO PARENTS LEGACY?

Now that Sen. Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III has crossed the Rubicon, can he untie the Gordian knot?

This is the major question of leaders of civil society as they threw their support to Aquino’s presidential bid in May 2010.

Viewed as a reluctant candidate, which is supposedly one quality that makes him suitable for the presidential post, Aquino now faces the challenge of proving he is worthy of, or better than, his parent’s legacy.

As the candidate currently in the spotlight, activist priest Fr. Robert Reyes said Aquino is on the cusp of reforming the country’s “present elitist democracy to one that is participatory.”

Reyes, who was present in Aquino’s formal announcement at Club Filipino on Wednesday, said he is supporting the Aquino scion’s candidacy, like most civil society groups.

He is among the convenors of the new movement, “Noynoy Para sa Pilipinas” or “Noypi,” which is supporting Aquino's bid.

Reyes said Aquino is different from the other aspirants since he was able to inspire civil society groups to once again be hopeful that change is possible.

Noynoy's democracy challenge

The prelate noted that the late President Corazon Aquino, while she restored democracy, was hampered in demolishing “elitist democracy” during her administration.

President Arroyo, on the other hand, only paid lip service to her vow to bring wider participation of civil society groups in governance. Arroyo came into power in January 2001 following a series of corruption scandals involving then President Joseph Estrada.

While Arroyo may have tapped civil society leaders like former Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman and former presidential adviser on the peace process Teresita Deles in her official Cabinet, they were eventually “co-opted by Arroyo.”

Reyes said “it was a good thing that they bolted out of her Cabinet before it was too late.”

Aquino, he said, has the chance of undoing what Arroyo did by really giving “all sectors in society a voice in governance.”

Deles, who was also present in Aquino’s formal declaration, said she expects him “to bring back governance and to strengthen democracy” in case he wins as President.

Black and White movement spokesperson Leah Navarro said she is hopeful that Aquino, if he becomes president, will uphold “good governance and institutional reform” by “opening accountability and engaging in consultations with stakeholders."

Reforming Hacienda Luisita

The party-list Akbayan, which is supporting Aquino, said that it would engage Aquino on the agrarian reform case surrounding Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac owned by the Aquino and Cojuangco clans.

The fate of 6,400 hectare property has been one of the major criticisms thrown at then-President Aquino's "democratic" restoration. While land reform was one of the pillars of her administration, her own family's agricultural estate was spared of actual agrarian reform. And in 2004, 14 workers died in a violent dispersal of striking sugar plantation workers in the hacienda.

Deles acknowledged Hacienda Luisita's land reform would be one of major issues that Aquino would have to confront. “But we trust him that he will do what needs to be done” when the right time comes, she said.

Reyes said Aquino should also be prepared to handle issues concerning his uncle, businessman Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr., especially the coco-levy fund controversies. Cojuangco is accused of misusing the levy imposed by on coconut farmers to enrich himself.

Recently, a case against a move by Cojuangco-led conglomerate San Miguel Corporation has reached the Supreme Court. San Miguel wanted to convert company shares that coconut farmers have been claiming as illegally acquired by Cojuangco into non-voting shares.

This move had been criticized by farmer groups and civil society organizations as a way for Aquino’s uncle to set aside the farmer claimants in how the company is ran.

Reyes said Aquino should address these issues not only when he becomes President, but also even during the election campaign.

In his formal announcement on Wednesday, Aquino provided a glimpse into his administration in case he gets to Malacañang.

He said he would provide access of justice “not only for the well-connected but for everybody.”

He cited, for instance, the ill-gotten wealth cases of the Marcoses. More than 20 years after the fall of the Marcos regime, he said there is no closure yet.

Court issues gag order on Singson row with ex-partner

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court last Tuesday enjoined the media against writing or discussing the quarrel between deputy national security adviser Luis "Chavit" Singson and his ex-partner Rachel "Che" Tiongson.

According to GMA’s Flash Report, the QCRTC also told the two camps not to talk to the media about the alleged beating as it was a "family matter."

The court issued the statement before the hearing of Tiongson’s petition for a temporary protection order from Singson that was filed last week.

Singson did not attend the first hearing called by Judge Angelene Mary Quimpo Sale of the QCRTC Branch 26 last Tuesday, even though he had been busy giving interviews with TV, radio and print journalists during the past few days.

Tiongson attended the hearing, escorted by members of the women's advocacy group Gabriela.

In previous interviews, Singson repeatedly talked about how he assaulted Tiongson after he supposedly found her in bed with another man inside their Quezon City apartment. Tiongson has denied his story.

But as the clamor by women advocates for the Palace to suspend Singson mounted, he later backtracked, claiming that he in fact saved Tiongson and her male companion from being killed by the private detectives he had hired to stalk the pair.

Tiongson is still reportedly shaken by the incident and always becomes emotional when asked about their children. Her 17-year-old relationship with the former Ilocos Sur governor bore five children.

Singson has refused to take a leave of absence from work and said that he will leave his fate in the hands of his immediate superior, National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales

US rejects benefits claims of 1,000 Pinoys

The United States government has rejected the applications of 1,000 Filipino World War II veterans seeking benefits under the US stimulus package law, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said Thursday.

Teodoro said the applications were rejected because the applicants had failed to show sufficient proof that they fought with US troops in the last World War.

“One thousand (applications) were denied…Their affiliation or proof of service was unsubstantiated, you know you need some proof,” the defense chief said at the sidelines of an assembly of World War II veterans in Camp Aguinaldo.

The US Veterans Affairs Office began accepting application of Filipino World War II veterans, including those who are already US citizens, in February following the passage of the US Stimulus Package Law that provide benefits for the veterans.

The law provides a compensation of $15,000 for veterans who are US citizens and $9,000 for non-US citizens. Veterans have until February next year to file their applications.

At the same time, Teodoro revealed that the US has also approved the applications of about 4,000 veterans, both based in US and in the Philippines. He said the veterans have already received their checks.

Also, he said that the US is still in the process of evaluating 7,000 other applications. “There is 7,000 more in the pipeline…Its being processed at the time we were there,” said Teodoro, referring to last month’s visit of President Arroyo to US.

Teodoro said about 34,000 had so far filed their claim and they expect about 20,000 or so applications until February next year.

The defense chief is scheduled to fly to the US next week to meet with US veterans affairs secretary Eric Shinseki and check on the processing of the applications.

During his visit, Teodoro will also meet with his US counterpart, US defense secretary Robert Gates, “to discuss our counter- terrorism cooperation.” Gates paid Teodoro a visit at Camp Aguinaldo last June.

What will happen to our 1,000 Filipino veterans rejected their application to claim their benefits? Hope our Defense Secretary will help our veterans and hope the American goverment will hear the voices of the Filipino veterans.

It's official: Panlilio opts out of 2010 race

We have another brave politician who officially declare withdrawal from 2010 presidential race for the love for his country.

Its Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio has formally declared his withdrawal. Panlilio made the announcement yesterday (Sept. 4) at the historic Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City, saying he has abandoned his presidential ambition to give way to Liberal Party’s Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino.

He decided not to push through with his plan to run as president in the coming elections but he offered his full support and trust to Sen. Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III as his presidential candidate.

With the declaration, Panlilio, a priest on leave, became the second presidential aspirant to give up his bid.

Liberal Party president Sen. Mar Roxas made the same announcement last Tuesday.

Michael Jackson funeral touching, emotional

GLENDALE, Calif. – Paris Jackson wept as she stepped into the mausoleum where her father, Michael, was to be entombed. Katherine Jackson, overcome by sorrow, turned back when she was faced with her son's final resting place.

On a sultry Thursday evening, amid a sea of white flowers and with a bejeweled crown placed atop his casket by his children, the King of Pop was given an intimate, private version of the lavish public memorial held shortly after his death in June.

The funeral at Glendale Memorial Park was simple but touching, according to one guest. The person, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the day, said Gladys Knight's performance of the hymn "Our Father" (The Lord's Prayer) was soared in the vast mausoleum and moved many to tears.

When it was over, many of the the 200 mourners hugged each other. Among them were Elizabeth Taylor, Jackson's ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley, Barry Bonds and Macaulay Culkin.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who gave a eulogy at the public event and at Thursday's service, also extolled Knight's earlier performance of "His Eye is on the Sparrow."

"Gladys Knight sang her heart out. Now we prepare to lay him to rest," Sharpton posted on his Twitter account during the service that was held outside and then within the marble mausoleum.

The mourners followed the crowned, lushly flower-draped casket as Jackson's five brothers _ each wearing a bright red tie and a single crystal-studded glove _ carried it into the mausoleum. The 11-year-old Paris cried as the group entered the imposing building and was comforted by her aunt, LaToya.

Paris and brothers Prince Michael, 12, and Prince Michael II, 7, known as Blanket, began the service by placing the crown on their father's golden casket. They were composed through most of the hour-and-a-half ceremony.

As it ended, Katherine Jackson appeared extremely weary and had to be helped to her car, according to the guest. Earlier, she had a difficult time going into the mausoleum; she was overcome, turned back, and it wasn't clear if she went in at all, the guest said.

The Jackson family's tardy arrival delayed the service for nearly two hours; no explanation was given to mourners. The invitation notice indicated the service would begin promptly at 7 p.m.; it began closer to 8:30.

The 77-year-old Taylor and others were left waiting in the late summer heat, with the temperature stuck at 90 degrees just before sunset, and some mourners fanned themselves with programs for the service. As darkness fell, police escorted the family's motorcade of 31 cars, including Rolls-Royces and Cadillacs, from their compound in Encino to Forest Lawn, about a 20-minute journey, with the hearse bearing Jackson's body at the end.

About 250 seats were arranged for mourners over artificial turf laid roadside at the mausoleum, and a vivid orange moon, a mark of the devastating wildfire about 10 miles distant, hung over the cemetery.

There were two oversized portraits of a youthful, vibrant Jackson mounted next to the casket amid displays of white lilies and roses. At Jackson's lavish public memorial, red roses covered his casket.

A large, blimp-like inflated light, the type used in film and television production, and a boom camera hovered over the seating area placed in front of the elaborate marble mausoleum. The equipment raised the possibility that the footage would be used for the Jackson concert documentary "This Is It," or perhaps the Jackson brothers' upcoming reality show.

More than 400 media credentials were issued to reporters and film crews who remained at a distance from the service and behind barricades. The few clusters of fans who gathered around the secure perimeter that encircled the cemetery entrance struggled to see.

Maria Martinez, 25, a fan from Riverside, Calif., who was joined by a dozen other Jackson admirers at a gas station near the security perimeter, gave a handful of pink flowers she had picked at a nearby park to a man with an invitation driving into the funeral.

"Can you please put these flowers on his grave?" she told him. "They were small and ugly, but I did that with my heart. I'm not going to be able to get close, so this is as close as I could get to him."

The man consented, adding, "God bless."

Glendale police said all went smoothly and there were no arrests.

Jackson will share eternity at Forest Lawn with the likes of Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and W.C. Fields, entombed alongside them in the mausoleum that will be all but off-limits to adoring fans who might otherwise turn the pop star's grave into a shrine.

The closest the public will be able to get to Jackson's vault is a portion of the mausoleum that displays "The Last Supper Window," a life-size stained-glass re-creation of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece. Several 10-minute presentations about the window are held regularly 365 days a year, but most of the building is restricted.

The Jackson family had booked an Italian restaurant in Pasadena for a gathering Thursday night, and family members and guests were seen coming and going late into the night.

"I feel like I watched Michael finally given some peace and I made a commitment to make sure his legacy and what he stood for lives on," Sharpton said outside the restaurant around midnight. "So at one level we're relieved; another level we're obligated."

The ceremony ends months of speculation that the singer's body would be buried at Neverland Ranch, in part to make the property a Graceland-style attraction. An amended copy of Jackson's death certificate was filed Thursday in Los Angeles County to reflect Forest Lawn as his final resting place.

In court on Wednesday, it was disclosed that 12 burial spaces were being purchased by Jackson's estate at Forest Lawn Glendale, about eight miles north of downtown Los Angeles, but no details were offered on how they would be used.

The King of Pop died a drug-induced death June 25 at age 50 as he was about to embark on a comeback attempt. The coroner's office has labeled the death a homicide, and Jackson's death certificate lists "injection by another" as the cause.

Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson's personal physician, told detectives he gave the singer a series of sedatives and the powerful anesthetic propofol to help him sleep. But prosecutors are still investigating, and no charges have been filed.

Roxas gives way to Noynoy Aquino

Presidential aspirant Senator Manuel Roxas II gives way to Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Saying he believed in “country above self,” Roxas stressed he would be supporting Aquino in the 2010 elections although it was not immediately clear whether Aquino would seek the presidency.

“Today, I’m announcing my support for the candidacy of Noynoy Aquino for president for 2010,” Roxas said in a televised press conference at the Club Filipino in San Juan, Metro Manila.

“Sa madaling salita, Noynoy has made it clear to me he wants to carry the torch of leadership,” he added.

However, Aquino, who was also at the press conference, did not deliver a speech.

Roxas said that after several talks with Aquino, they came up with a decision that would help them pursue their “common dream” for change.

220abscbn_mar

"This is the biggest decision I've made in my life,” said Roxas who already released several political advertisements ahead of the 2010 polls. He is also set to marry broadcaster Korina Sanchez in October.

“I do this for unity in support for change…if that means somebody has to make a sacrifice, ako na,” he said.

The senator’s late father, former Senator Gerry Roxas, was a close friend and political ally of Aquino’s assassinated father, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. The older Roxas and Aquino almost went against each other for the 1972 presidential elections, which did not push through when then president Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law.

I salute Senator Mar Roxas for being a good politician who think his country first before his pocket. Hope other politician will follow the braveness of Senator Mar Roxas.

About The Death Of Erano Manalo

MANILA, Philippines
РEra̱o Manalo, the Executive Minister of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), has passed away yesterday (Aug. 31) afternoon. He was 84.

According to a radio report, Manalo died at 3:53 p.m. yesterday in his home in Quezon City. The report quoted INC spokesman Bienvenido Santiago as saying that the religious leader succumbed to cardiopulmonary arrest.

He took over the administration of the church after the death of his father, INC founder Felix Manalo, in 1963.

Manalo’s remains will be interred at the Templo Sentral of the INC in Quezon City, the report added. They say that there is no definite date when the late Ka Erdy will be buried. To the family of Ka Erdy my condolences.

Head of largest Philippine indigenous church dies

Erano Manalo, leader of the Philippines' largest indigenous religious sect, has died yesterday (Aug. 31,2009) around 3:53pm at the age of 84.

Manalo took over Iglesia ni Cristo, or Church of Christ, after the death of his father and the church's founder, Felix Manalo, in 1963. The church is believed to have millions of members but does not disclose the figure.

Manalo died of a heart attack in his Manila home on Monday, the church's spokesman Bienvenido Santiago said.

The church was founded in 1914 when Felix Manalo resigned as minister of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church after questioning the observance of Sabbath on Saturdays. He experienced what he claimed to be a call similar to those of ancient prophets.

Iglesia ni Cristo rejects the Christian doctrine of trinity and believes Christ is one of several prophets.

It is considered the largest indigenous church that originated from the Philippines and the largest independent church in Asia.

To the family of late Ka Erdy Manalo our condolences and also to the Iglesia Ni Cristo family our condolences. May he rest in peace.

MANKIND'S 13 MOST DEADLIEST DISEASES !!!

12. Influenza A-H1N1 (Swine Flu)

The CDC explains, “on June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) signaled that a global pandemic of novel influenza A (H1N1) was underway. At the time of the WHO’s announcement, more than 70 countries had reported cases of novel influenza A (H1N1) infection and there were ongoing community level outbreaks of novel H1N1 in multiple parts of the world.

Since the WHO declaration of a pandemic, the new H1N1 virus has continued to spread, with the number of countries reporting cases of novel H1N1 nearly doubling. In the United States, significant novel H1N1 illness has continued into the summer, with localized and in some cases intense outbreaks occurring.

The United States continues to report the largest number of novel H1N1 cases of any country worldwide.” In good news, you aren’t likely to get swine flu, and if you do get it, you are even less likely to die from it. As of July 2009, 40,000 people had contracted swine flu in the U.S. and 263 people have died from it. This means you have a .000131 chance of already catching it, and a .0000000864 of dying from it at current levels.

13. Bubonic Plague

The most famous outbreak of the bacterial disease known as “plague” is caused by Yersinia pestis. It is an infection that travels through the lymphatic system and spreads through fleas carried by rats. Bubonic plague kills 50% of victims within a week if untreated, it was known as the Black Death when it decimated millions of Europeans during the Middle Ages (1300s). This most famous of pandemics killed more than 25 million people, or ¼ of the European continent’s total population.

The plague is thought to have originated in the Egyptian desert and then spread through trade routes by rats stowing away in merchant’s caravans and boats. Other researches contend that the plague began in the East and spread throughout Europe from Asia. The plague kills after swelling lymph glands into buboes found in the armpits, groin, and throat regions. The nursery rhyme “Ring Around the Rosy,” alludes to the plague’s rose-colored soars that painfully made everybody “all fall down.”

These are all the deadliest diseases that we should aware.

MANKIND'S 13 MOST DEADLIEST DISEASES !!!

10. Influenza

The CDC explains that “Influenza, (aka the flu), is a contagious and viral respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year. Every year in the United States, on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu; more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and; about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications.”

Unfortunately, the flu can mutate into new diseases such as bird flu and swine flu. According to the WHO, “Influenza affects mainly the nose, throat, bronchi and, occasionally, lungs. Infection usually lasts for about a week, and is characterized by sudden onset of high fever, aching muscles, headache and severe malaise, non-productive cough, sore throat and rhinitis.”

11. Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

The CDC: “Avian influenza is an infection caused by avian (bird) influenza (flu) viruses. These influenza viruses occur naturally among birds. Wild birds worldwide carry the viruses in their intestines, but usually do not get sick from them. However, avian influenza is very contagious among birds and can make some domesticated birds, including chickens, ducks, and turkeys, very sick and kill them. Infected birds shed influenza virus in their saliva, nasal secretions, and feces.

“Human influenza virus” usually refers to those subtypes that spread widely among humans. Symptoms of avian influenza in humans have ranged from typical human influenza-like symptoms to eye infections, pneumonia, severe respiratory diseases and other severe and life-threatening complications. “ The WHO estimates 421 cases and 257 deaths have occurred since the outbreak started in 2003. Indonesia was the country hardest hit by the disease with 115 deaths.

MANKIND'S 13 MOST DEADLIEST DISEASES !!!

8. Malaria

The CDC tells us “malaria is a mosquito-borne disease caused by a parasite. People with malaria often experience fever, chills, and flu-like illness. Left untreated, they may develop severe complications and die. Each year 350-500 million cases of malaria occur worldwide, and over one million people die.” Most of the deaths are the most vulnerable amongst us; nearly 90% of deaths occur in young children living in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The disease is vector-borne, (transmitted by mosquitoes) and Americans are generally exposed only while traveling to exotic locales. Malaria medication, insecticides, and fresh bed nets can reduce the risk of infection significantly.

9. SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)

The CDC describes SARS as a feverishly “viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, called SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV). SARS was first reported in China in February 2003. Over the next few months, the illness spread to more than two-dozen countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. According to the WHO, “a total of 8,098 people worldwide became sick with SARS during the 2003 outbreak. Of these, 774 died.

In the United States, only eight people had laboratory evidence of SARS-CoV infection. All of the infected people had traveled to other parts of the world affected by SARS. Chinese scientists believe that the disease-jumped species from the civet cat to humans after the “cats” were eaten as food. The civet cat is a carnivorous mammalian animal similar to a cat but with a pointed muzzle not unlike a mongoose or otter.

MANKIND'S 13 MOST DEADLIEST DISEASES !!!

6.Measles

7.Leprosy

Leprosy is a Greek word that means, “scales on a fish,” an obvious description for anyone who has seen pictures of a leprosy victim’s misshapen body. The chronic disease is caused by the Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis. The disease attacks the upper respiratory track and the mucous membranes and causes external skin lesions.

An ancient sickness, leprosy has plagued peoples from Egypt to China, and, because of the crippling physical signs of the disease, has often left people outcast and quarantined in lonely leper colonies. Today, with modern treatment, there have only been several thousand deaths from leprosy, mostly in Asia, South East Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean.

MANKIND'S 13 MOST DEADLIEST DISEASES !!!

4.Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria is famous for attacking the lungs, remember how Doc Holiday (Val Kilmer) kept wheezing those bloody coughs into his handkerchief in the cowboy classic Tombstone? While the lungs are a usual target, Mycobacterium tuberculosis can also invade the brain, spine, and kidneys.

Without proper treatment the disease can be fatal which is why it used to be the leading cause of death in the United States. Today, according to the WHO, someone in the world is newly infected with TB bacilli every second. Overall, one-third of the world’s population is currently infected with the TB bacillus. The WHO explains, “people infected with TB bacilli will not necessarily become sick with the disease.

The immune system ‘walls off’ the TB bacilli which, protected by a thick waxy coat, can lie dormant for years. When someone’s immune system is weakened, the chances of becoming sick are greater which is why it is so dangerous to patients infected with HIV/Aids. The “White Death” has claimed untold lives in its long history, easily killing many millions of victims.

5.Cholera

According to the CDC, “Cholera is an acute, diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Approximately one in 20 infected persons has severe disease characterized by profuse watery diarrhea, vomiting, and leg cramps. In these persons, rapid loss of body fluids leads to dehydration and shock. Without treatment, death can occur within hours.”

Because of modern American sanitation and sewage infrastructures, the risk for contamination in the United States is low, but travelers to Sub-Saharan Africa and India should be aware of the risks presented by the disease. Since cholera kills through severe dehydration, getting more and more people access to clean drinking water will continue to decrease incidents of infection.

MANKIND'S 13 MOST DEADLIEST DISEASES !!!

2.Smallpox

3. Yellow Fever

Your hatred of mosquitoes is well founded; these little annoyances can kill you. Yellow Fever, a flavivirus is transmitted to humans through infected mosquitoes. The illness can range from a strong fever to severe hepatitis and hemorrhagic fever. The disease has been around for at least 400 years and gets the “yellow” part of its name from the yellowish jaundice symptoms exhibited by some of its victims.

Today, the disease is most prevalent in South America and Africa. Over the last 400 years, millions of people have been infected by yellow fever. Many, but not all of these victims have perished. The WHO estimates that there are around 200,000 new cases a year with around 30,000 deaths resulting from the infection.
